Forensic Accounting
He works with attorneys, insurers, and businesses in matters involving property losses, marine losses, product recalls, products liability, cyber incidents, fraud, theft, business interruption, and business income losses.
His experience spans complex disputes and investigations throughout North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, including matters with alleged damages exceeding half a billion dollars. He analyzes financial and economic loss claims, assists clients in evaluating damages and exposure, and develops defensible financial models to support litigation, insurance, and business decision-making.
Steven has testified as an expert witness and has prepared numerous expert reports for Federal, State, and international proceedings involving financial and economic damages. He assists legal teams with discovery strategy, deposition preparation, expert rebuttal analysis, and the evaluation of complex financial claims. He also served as a mock expert witness for the International Association of Defense Counsel's Trial Academy at Stanford University.
His work includes the development of damage models involving large insurance towers, particularly in products liability and product recall matters. He has also performed insurance-related due diligence in merger and acquisition transactions, including the evaluation of historical losses, unresolved claims, and contingent liabilities that may materially affect transaction value.
Steven's background includes forensic accounting, financial investigations, tax, assurance, and regulatory examinations. Throughout his career, he has investigated fraud and theft matters, analyzed business interruption losses, examined complex financial records, and assisted organizations in responding to crisis-related events and disputes.
In addition to his consulting work, Steven develops educational materials, analytical tools, and training programs for accounting and legal professionals. He regularly presents on topics including business interruption, lost rents, product recalls, products liability, forensic accounting, and the measurement of economic damages.
Tax and Bookkeeping
Steven provides tax and bookkeeping services to individuals, entrepreneurs, and closely held businesses. His experience includes the preparation of federal and state income tax returns, financial recordkeeping, account reconciliations, and ongoing accounting support designed to help clients maintain compliance and make informed financial decisions.
His background in public accounting, forensic accounting, and regulatory examinations provides a unique perspective when identifying tax, accounting, and recordkeeping issues. He has also served as a Revenue Agent within the Internal Revenue Service's Small Business/Self-Employed Division, where he conducted examinations of business tax returns and investigated indicators of civil fraud.
By combining practical accounting experience with investigative expertise, Steven helps clients establish reliable financial records, meet their tax obligations, and address complex financial matters with confidence.
